…the day the whale swallowed a whole lot of eggmen

We’ve been meaning to post something about this little creature for quite some time now. A close friend of ours commissioned us to design a whale…a very hungry whale.

He left us with that and this is what we came up with…

We developed two illustrations for a winking whale with a big BIG appetite. These depict two scenes - day and night. We like to call the hunchbacked people eggmen …you’ll understand why in our next post so keep watching =)

…the day we gave a second life 2 forgotten little treasures.

This week we delivered the winning Spring Giveaway heartCHARM to the beautiful and very excited Virginie who personalised it with lime-purple-grey and a message of peace - love it!

Everybody deserves a second chance and we at woodYOU took the liberty to extend this philosophy to our raw materials! 

Not only do we give another chance to random pieces of wood but we also try to collect unwanted ‘jewels’ from family and friends. We recently got a bagful of coloured goodies from Chris’ Nanna Zarena …we gave them a quick shower and left them soaking up the Sunday sun –lucky them!…They will hopefully be hanging on your bags soon =) 

We’re also keeping all unwanted brown paper packaging from parcels we receive. We then use organic glue and transform them into cosy temporary homes for our charms …they also make great gift-wraps!

We also intend to add some colour by using pigments from fruit and veggies but we’ll tell you more about this some other time.

Point is we love life and whenever possible we will try to respect Mother Nature by doing our fair share of green goodness! We also want to give you the chance of extending the life of a used button or some transformed discarded firewood.

It’s a bit like the ugly duckling …only this time it’s with wood, buttons, envelopes and other random bits and bobs!

…the day we got the sweet sweet news

This afternoon we found some great news in our inbox! Once again we were welcomed to form part of the wonderful Patches Community and set up a stall in the sixth edition of Patches Market in Valletta. It’s all happening in Valletta’s old Market Place is-Suq, in less then 3 weeks now so we’re all excited– for real…Yay !

The fact that this will be our second time at the market only fills us with more anticipation and hope for this event!

We look forward to seeing many of you there on Sunday 1^st May! Until then…spread the word!! =)

…Oh!...and did we mention we’re EXCITED!!

…the day we decided to follow our bliss

It all started when we decided to quit our 9 to 5 job and suddenly realised we had all the time in the world to do/follow that which makes us happy – simples ;) Two friends turned lovers with a common passion for art, design, music and technology joined forces with a humble but very talented carpenter who was waiting for someone to help him share his gift with people of all generations through his creations.

Currently based on the tiny island of Malta (in the big blue Med), we’re Chris, Lex and Lolly – collectively known as woodYOU! We make wooden artifacts with a difference. Each piece is designed with love and we promise that every item will not be the same since all are handmade. We’re also aware that the Earth is not getting any greener and so whenever we’re not at the workshop we’re out looking for unwanted wood with loads of potential! We therefore NEVER have to buy brand new wood and finish all our products with non-toxic wax that nourish the product and leaves the end user unharmed-in simple words everyone’s happy =)

….....and no there is no catch or fine print-we vow to make unique, handcrafted gifts, toys, sculptures and anything else that comes to mind when we are relaxing with friends and family, travelling, listening to music etc etc…

This is our blog…we’ll try to keep you updated with what’s going through our funny  heads by posting lots of drawings, more pictures and probably fewer words!

Finally we’d like to share with you this weird song we heard one Sunday afternoon on a radio show. Yes, it’s silly but it also has an incredibly catchy riff…
